In a recent financial update, Trump Media & Technology Group, the company behind the social media platform Truth Social, disclosed a significant loss amounting to $238 million for the second quarter. This financial setback comes as the company pivots its focus back to its core social media operations after venturing into the cryptocurrency sector and other diverse enterprises.
Despite the substantial loss, the company’s revenue for the quarter reached $1.7 million, marking an impressive increase from the previous year’s figures. Kevin McGurn, the newly appointed CEO, emphasized that the company intends to reallocate its resources towards strengthening its social media business. Nevertheless, it will continue to pursue select initiatives, such as a planned merger with the nuclear fusion company TAE Technologies.
Among its new offerings, Trump Media introduced the Truth API, a subscription-based service designed for financial firms. This service offers early access to posts from Donald Trump and other high-profile users on Truth Social. The subscription fees range from $60,000 to $100,000 per month, and the service has already secured 10 clients, primarily from the high-frequency trading sector.
Financially, Trump Media & Technology Group remains robust with more than $400 million in cash and short-term investments at the quarter’s close. Additionally, it holds approximately $1.2 billion in bitcoin and related digital assets. However, the company also carries a significant debt burden, with about $1 billion in convertible notes that are due to mature in 2028.
